Shortly after the officers managed to detain it on a busy road.

But as the officer opened the passenger door to arrest the occupants the driver reversed at speed over the grassy central reservation of the dual carriageway.

Shocking video footage showed him bravely hanging on when he fell to the ground and was dragged backwards.

The car reversed into oncoming traffic with its back bumper hanging off.

But other officers were quickly on the scene and the occupants were arrested.

The cop was taken to hospital with a leg injury but it was not life-threatening.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Shortly after 1.15pm today, a Seat Ibiza failed to stop for a roads policing unit and was pursued before being brought to a stop a few minutes later on Selby Road, Leeds.

“The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and whilst being detained a police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

“Enquiries remain ongoing which necessitated the road being closed for a short time.

“A second vehicle not involved in the pursuit was also damaged in the incident.”
