LEEDS Bradford Airport has revealed what its huge terminal expansion will look like when it opens later this year.
The £100million transformation is set to be completed just in time for the school summerholidays.
New computer-generated images show a stylish, modern, exterior, with walkways and green spaces.
The new departure lounge, which has been designed with passenger comfort in mind, will feature enhanced seating areas and improved retail and dining offerings.
One image shows a contemporary bar area in the departure lounge with bar stools, tables and seating areas.
The airport will also benefit from a new baggage reclaim area and an upgraded passport control area, which is slated to include cutting-edge security technology.
John Cunliffe, Commercial Director at Leeds Bradford Airport commented: “We’re excited to share the new video and visuals that offer passengers a preview of what’s to come at the airport.
“Our transformative terminal expansion is not only about creating a modern, comfortable airport experience for travellers but also about building a sustainable future for travel in the region.
“With construction progressing on schedule, we look forward to welcoming passengers to our upgraded facilities this summer.”
Leeds Bradford Airport has expanded its terminal at a time when passenger numbers continue to rise.
Passenger numbers rose by 5.8 per cent at the airport last year when compared to the previous year.
Last year, the airport’s boss, Vincent Hodder, spoke about restarting long-haul routes from Leeds Bradford Airport.
He revealed conversations were taking place about airlines launching routes to far-flung destinations for the first time in its history.
Hodder told the BBC: “We’re already having those conversations with airlines from North America and the Middle East about how we can collectively work together to make those things happen over the next two to three years.
“I would be disappointed if by 2027 we did not have flights to North America and the Middle East.”
Long-haul destinations could include the likes of New York, Boston, Chicago, Jeddah, Oman and Dubai.
No long-haul routes have been confirmed as yet.
Elsewhere in the UK, Bristol Airport has revealed plans to start long-haul flights.
The regional airport once offered flights to New York; however, these were shelved back in 2010.
But new plans could see long-haul flights once again operate from Bristol Airport.
Three other UK airports getting revamped
HERE are three other airports in the UK currently undergoing multi-million-pound renovations.
London Stansted
Last year, London Stansted Airport confirmed its plans for the £1.1 billion renovation. The Ryanair hub will be extending its main terminal. £500million will be put into improving the current terminal and the rest of the airport.
Bristol Airport
A renovation at Bristol Airport will also see its terminal size increase. The £400 million revamp follows a record number of people travelling through the airport, welcoming 10 million passengers in a 12-month period for the first time ever.
Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport is currently being revamped. The £1.3billion project was first announced back in 2015, with work being split into two phases.
London Stansted Airport confirmed a £1.1billion renovation, with a £600million new terminal.
And Manchester Airport is currently undergoing a £1.3billion renovation.
